History
The Community Chest of Cicero (the Chest) was formed as a nonprofit corporation in 1943, at the height of the Second World War, to evaluate the Town of Cicero’s needs and to collect funds and distribute them to local organizations to meet those needs. Rather than having to decide among the many organizations asking for donations, donors can rely upon the Chest as a single place to benefit the many organizations seeking help, an efficient and effective way for a company or individual to make an impact on our Town.
The Chest is based in the Red Feather Building located at 5341 West Cermak Road. Dedicated in 1961 and built entirely from donations, the Red Feather Building is home to the Chest as well as two other nonprofits who occupy large portions of the building: namely, Family Service and Mental Health of Cicero, and The Children’s Center of Cicero-Berwyn.
